Phyllis (Our Angel)

We got our donkey Phyllis on December 18, 2010.  We "inherited" her when a friend of the family passed away.  I remember getting out of the truck on that snowy morning and looking out into the field and seeing those long ears sticking up past a hay bale.  I asked my husband if that was our donkey and just as I finished asking the question Phyllis let out this big HEEEEE HAWWWW!  We had a really hard time getting her to go into the trailer and when we got her home she didn't quite fit in with our herd...our "snotty" horses had never seen a donkey before and they ran around for about three days while Phyllis ate their hay and drank their water.  Phyllis would only eat her corn out of my hand and I happily hand-fed her (I still do).  After about three weeks, the horses started to accept her a little more and some of them even will share the leanto with her.  Every morning and every night I say hello to her and she'll wind up into a big Hee Haw for me, although it sounds a little more like "HOOOONNNKKKK-squeak-honk-squeak-honk-squeak!"  I love her and I think every horse owner should have a donkey too.
